With a worsening of the Covid situation and all but the Scilly Isles now in Tiers 4 or 3, the impact on all organised sport is severe.
In Tier 4, there is no adult hockey nor travel outside the immediate home location, http://www.englandhockey.co.uk/news.asp?itemid=49992&itemTitle=Update+following+introduction+of+Tier+4+restrictions+in+parts+of+England§ion=22
and in Tier 3 players can only travel within their existing Tier 3 area with no ‘out of bubble’ car sharing. Therefore, LX is reviewing all early 2021 fixtures and activities.
The match on the 7 Jan has been formally cancelled, although the Match Manager may look at the possibility of a very local arrangement and he will write to all those that have signed up for this very soon. The Government’s re-evaluation of the situation in 2 weeks’ time will impact on the viability of the Intra Club day on the 24 Jan. The aim of the ‘trials’ on 7 Feb was to be ready for the forthcoming international season. However, even if it is possible to run them, constraints will mean full attendance is unlikely and, furthermore, EH have advised that decisions about the shape and size of the international calendar are far from certain, and so the 7 Feb will now be ‘rebranded’ as age group gatherings. The matches v Wales will be similarly looked at.
Remaining optimistic that the measures in place and the vaccine will have the intended effect, in due course, we hope to have greater certainty about returning to hockey in 2021.
