As if Friday night’s Euro 2020 Cup clash between England and Scotland wasn’t enough, the LX 70s and Scottish Thistles took to the field intent on getting a result this time. Unfortunately it was the ‘wrong’ result for LX ending up 2-0 to the Scottish Thistles.

The game was however more entertaining than the football could ever have been with more scoring chances and some might say more energy and skill.  LX started with a squad of 13, having lost the chairman no less, to injury in the previous week. It contained nine defenders, two midfielders and no forwards.

The game started off well for LX with better possession and progress up the pitch at which point the lack of forwards became a fundamental problem. With little presence in the D chances and shots on target for LX were in short supply.  Thistles went ahead against the run of play at the end of the first half with a well taken short corner, struck at pace into the corner of the goal.

A discussion and regrouping of resources at half time could not change the lack of forwards who had never been so needed.

And so in the second half, LX again had the possession but Thistles had the runners and were able to attack through their forwards to greater effect.  The final goal again came against the run of play with Thistles getting to the bye line and pulling the ball back to score from the penalty spot.

At least England came top and went on to the last 16 whereas Scotland came last and went home.
