Two Thistles mixed age teams took part in the Saturday event: Thistles White and Blue. The white team had a mixed day, winning the first game against ‘Midlands 2-1 with goals from Jim Watson and Rob Campbell. The next game was against England LX red and a much tougher game, although Thistles more than held their own and were unlucky not to have at least drawn the game. LX won 2-1, again a goal from El Capitan Rob Campbell. Thistles Blue under the effervescent Ian McCreath lost 1-0 to North O65s and lost 3-1 to LX White.
Saturday evening was spent at the Newport rugby Club with an excellent and copious BBQ produced by Quinney, a goalkeeper of note and a very good chef. We all enthusiastically watched the football on the big screen and consumed some beer and very generous measures of red wine.
Sunday we were split into mixed squads involving members of the LX Lionesses ladies teams. Thistles played five highly enjoyable and competitive games in all and most of us were pretty tired by the end of the day, especially with a long drive home. However we were fortunate to get the hockey completed before the rain came. Everyone enjoyed the weekend thoroughly and hope to bring some Thistles ladies along next time the event is held.
