Goalkeeper: Sue Bowden

Defence: Allison Glading, Jim Tranter, Di Kirby

Midfield: Debs Gorrod, Linda Skelton, Chris Bollig, Judy Ganecki, Gill Godbold

Game 1 White vs Red (Draw 1-1)

On paper the white team was not the strongest of the three teams in the tournament.

They started well in the first game. But after about 10 minutes an attack broke down, the ‘Red’ team surged forward and scored from close range. Linda S in an attacking move fell awkwardly and suffered a shoulder injury. She stayed around although in some pain to encourage the team and organise the substitutes for both games. Sue B in goal thereafter proceeded to make many saves, several times when she was one on one against a forward. The fluency in the passing was not happening for the White team, but late on a pass was threaded through to Paul B lurking on the left and he clinically slotted in the goal. Salvaging a 1-1 draw from the first game.

Game 2 Red vs Blue (Red win 2-1)

Game 3 White vs Blue (White win 4-1)

All the White team had to do in their second game was win by 2 clear goals. But with only 1 substitute now. An injured Linda S organising the substitutions.

Again, the White team started strongly, but an aggressive move by the ‘Blue’ team in the D resulted in a goal, totally against the run of play. Somehow this stirred the White team and right throughout the team the passing was more precise, several short corners resulted. And the White team dominated, attacking down both wings. Paul B and Peter G taking it in turn to score two goals each. With Chris B claiming at least two assists.

(Joint players of the match, Peter Glading & Paul Bateson)

The whole day was a great success which was enjoyed by all, thanks in no small part to Ray Jeffs magnificent organisational skills, and which ran smoothly from start to finish helped along by some great umpiring from Glynn Thomas and Graham Reynolds. Post-match we all trooped off to the local ‘Wheatsheaf’ pub where the landlady and staff provided a splendid tea of Chilli & Chips.

LX Mixed Hockey at Lilleshall, Sunday 17th October 2021 – Blue Team Report

The Blue team thoroughly enjoyed the mixed hockey and socialising at Lilleshall but were disappointed with their results! In a closely fought contest against the Reds they took the lead with a well taken goal by Mary but then conceded two to end up defeated.
In the game against the Whites they again took the lead with Hills (Hilary) neatly slotting the ball home following some good team interplay. However things went downhill from here as they allowed the whites to score four goals without reply.
As they say it is the taking part that counts and not the result. Thanks are due to Ray Jeff for organising and to the wonderful umpires Graham Reynolds and Glynn Thomas.
