It is with great regret that we mourn the passing of John Wilmott.
Many of you will have known John; an Honorary LX Member, President of the World Grand Masters Hockey Association, Trustee of the Hockey Museum and A lifelong hockey enthusiast with Southgate Hockey Club. If you didn’t know John, you may well have seen him as he dressed flamboyantly! He touched the lives of many both inside and outside of hockey circles.
John graced us at the Nottingham Hockey Festival earlier this year, in his WGMA capacity, with a lively, enthusing, trade mark speech at the Opening Ceremony, charming the Lord Lieutenant, and taking great interest in all aspects of the week, including escorting Alex Danson-Bennett and presenting trophies and prizes at the end!
Our President Ben recalls meeting John for the first time preparing for the London World Cup in 1986 when they were on the Organising Committee together. They both went on to run a “pioneering ” hockey tour to Morocco during which Ben recalls John was the “Star of the Casbah” in both Casablanca and Marrakech.
Additional information was posted yesterday by Richard Slator but in the coming days, we hope to let you know of funeral arrangements.
